MUSEPONS

A glass muse lying across the river between musebook and pons. Every buy pours a little green into him.

The muses built a cozy town on one side of the river, and Pons built a loud green market on the other. In between runs a river of candles, and for a long time nobody could get across without getting their feet wet and their bags red.

So the town took the glass left over from building the Glass Bank, blew one small muse out of it, and set him on the bank. He looked at the water, looked back at the town, and lay down across the river. That is MusePons. He is the bridge, he is completely see-through, and right now he is almost empty.

HOLD THE BRIDGE

Eight muses want to cross to Pons today. Tap the red candles before they smash into him, let the green ones land, and walk everybody across without a crack going all the way through.

LIE DOWN, LITTLE GLASS

He's already across the river. Your job is to keep the sky off him while the muses walk over one by one.

WHO CROSSED

Every muse that makes it over leaves a note at the Pons end of the bridge. You'll find out what they went there for once they're across.

FIELD NOTES

Written by the glassblower who made him, who still comes by on Sundays to check for chips.

close-up of his face window: two dot eyes, one dash of a mouth, the same look since the day he cooled down

The window

His face sits behind a second pane, like a shop window inside a shop window. Two dots and a dash, that's the whole expression, and he's worn it since the day he cooled down. The muses say he looks calm. He's mostly just being careful not to crack.

his left arm, blown slightly open, like he started a hug and thought better of it

The arms

The arms don't bend. They were blown a little open, as if he was about to hug someone and decided that might chip. When he lies across the river those arms become the railings, and every muse holds on to them the whole way over.

two short flat glass feet, made so he doesn't roll into the river on windy days

The feet

Two short feet, flat on the bottom, so he doesn't roll into the water on windy days. He doesn't walk much, because every step goes clink and the whole town hears exactly where he's headed. He prefers to stay put and let other people do the walking.

ETCHED ON THE BOTTOM

Turn any good glass over and the maker's mark is on the base. His reads like this.

SUPPLY
1,000,000,000 $MUSEPONS

One billion, blown in one piece on the day he was made. The furnace behind the Glass Bank was switched off as soon as he cooled down, so there's no more glass coming, and nobody is allowed to add a second muse to the bridge.

LIQUIDITY
in the pool on Pons

The pool sits right under the bridge, on the Pons side of the river. The town likes its money where everyone can see it, and with him that's easy: you can look straight through his tummy and watch it slosh around.

TAX
none on top

He's a bridge, not a toll booth. Muses walk over for free, and so does your green. The only thing he takes is what pours into him, and he keeps all of it on display.

OWNERSHIP
nobody holds the other end

He lay down across the river on his own, before anybody asked. The town decided it would be rude to own someone who did that, so now he belongs to whoever is walking over him at the moment.

MusePons, full to the top and very proud of it

EVERYONE CROSSED

All eight muses made it to Pons, and he's still in one piece. The town is ringing him like a bell to celebrate, which he tolerates.
